You Will Work With A Professional Trainer On A Program Designed Specifically For You And Your Goals.

Yoga is about getting to know yourself better. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to start and keep coming back. Your practice will naturally improve over time and one day you’ll master those difficult poses. In the meantime, take pride in your mistakes and frustrations because you’re changing your lifestyle for the better. And if you need help, just ask! We love to answer your questions.

We recommend our Gentle Yoga class for students who have never done yoga. It will prepare you for other classes. Read our complete list of FAQs.
You will want to pick and choose your class carefully. Yoga is a restorative practice and can often help the body to recover or help with symptoms. We recommend our Gentle Yoga classes to ease you into a regular practice. Be sure to check with your doctor before attending a class. Tell your teacher at the start of class about your individual situation. You don’t want to wait until the middle of headstand to tell the teacher you had surgery on your cervical spine two months ago. An injury can be a great learning experience. Take responsibility for your body and listen when it asks you to modify, take a break or stop. In some cases, we may recommend individual instruction. It is important that you not only get good at sensing what is happening in your body, but you also need to get comfortable asking for guidance when worrisome issues arise.
While every teacher has his or her own method, every class aims to challenge and inspire you. Teachers lead the class through a series of postures (asanas), according to the class type. Asanas are usually presented with more and less challenging options so that everyone can be comfortable. Some classes use props like straps and blocks to help establish an asana. Most classes end with several minutes of a resting pose. The goal is for you to leave class feeling more alive, present, and healthy than when you came in.
That’s OK. “I’m not flexible!” is the most common thing we hear from new students. You don’t have to be able to tie yourself into a pretzel to enjoy a yoga practice. Yoga is noncompetitive and everyone is encouraged to practice at their own pace and listen to their body’s messages. It’s not about doing the pose perfectly, it’s about receiving the benefits of the pose in a way that serves your body as it is today. It is often the tight, inflexible body that receives the benefits most quickly from yoga. You may want to consider our Gentle Yoga classes to ease you into a regular practice.
It depends! Many yogis recommend that women refrain from inversions during the first three days of their menstrual cycle to avoid countering this natural downward flow of energy. These include headstands, shoulder stands, and handstands. Our teachers often offer an alternative pose for those who aren’t doing inversions, but we leave this decision up to each woman’s personal discretion. Others recommend practicing only restorative or gentle yoga during your cycle to help build back the energy that goes into the process of menstruation. Listen to your body!
There is ample parking at the medical center one block south of us OR in the shopping center one block north of us.
Please come to class with an empty stomach and an open mind. Prenatal students should eat something light approximately one hour before class.
To class, bring a yoga mat, an open mind, and a reusable water bottle/cup. We have water available but do not sell plastic water bottles or offer cups in an effort to reduce waste. Please ensure your cup has a lid for they frequently get knocked over. Please roll your mat out quietly. All other props needed for class are provided free of charge.
We prefer students wear fitted clothing that enables your joints to be visible. For example, footless tights or shorts and a t-shirt or athletic top. Many students wear an outer layer like a long-sleeve t-shirt and socks for the first and last few minutes of class to keep warm and comfortable. Come prepared to practice with bare feet. The main thing is that you feel comfortable and can move in your clothing!
Storage cubbies are available in the same room with you; there are no lockable units available.
At Henschell Chiropractic you can expect skillful, certified yoga teachers. We hire teachers who design intelligently and with attention given to your individual needs.
There may be times of guided or silent meditation-usually just for a few minutes. It is also common to hear “Namaste,” “OM” or “Shanti” at the beginning or end of class although participation is always optional. OM is used as the symbol of yoga and is a Sanskrit word meaning “unity.” It refers to the interconnectedness of all things. “Shanti” means “peace.” “Namaste” literally means: the divine in me bows to the divine in you. Every moment we are together we have the opportunity to respect and appreciate one another. These tools are helpful in creating quiet within the mind. They are offered in the spirit of supporting your individual faith or life philosophy.
No, but you’ll want to adapt it. Our Prenatal classes offer safe and beneficial practices for this important time. If you are pregnant and plan to take “regular” classes, please notify your teacher and listen to your body. Avoid poses on your belly and flat on your back. Modify twists to be open, not closed. Backbends should be gentle, not deep. Relaxation pose should be modified to avoid lying fully supine (both hips and shoulders on the floor) for an extended period of time.
