Family-centered chiropractic care with attention to age and stage of life
Pregnancy and childhood both change how a chiropractic visit should be approached. At Henschell Chiropractic, evaluation and treatment are adapted to the individual rather than using the same positioning, examination or technique for every patient.
Dr. Alta Mahan — pregnancy, pediatric & family care
Dr. Alta Mahan is a family wellness chiropractor with a passion for caring for babies, children, expectant mothers and families through every stage of life.
She brings more than 27 years of education and experience, along with advanced perinatal, pediatric and postnatal certification through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).
Dr. Alta has specialized training and experience in the Webster Technique, a chiropractic approach focused on pelvic alignment and function to help support comfort during pregnancy and preparation for birth.
Committed to lifelong learning and sharing her knowledge, she works with local obstetricians, midwives, lactation specialists and doulas to support the families she serves.
Pregnancy-related musculoskeletal concerns
Pregnancy can change posture, movement, sleep positions and the physical demands placed on the low back, pelvis, hips and surrounding muscles. Patients may also continue to experience ordinary neck or back complaints unrelated to pregnancy. Treatment positioning and techniques can be modified for comfort, stage of pregnancy and individual tolerance.
Pediatric chiropractic begins with an age-appropriate examination
Children and teenagers are not small adults. They may describe pain differently, have different activity demands and require a different examination approach. Parents or guardians are included in the history and care discussion. Treatment, when appropriate, is selected according to age, development, symptoms and examination findings.

When a child or family is involved in a car accident
A collision can involve several members of one family, but each person should be evaluated individually. An adult may report immediate neck or low-back pain while a child may initially say very little or describe symptoms less specifically. We consider age, symptom timing, behavior changes, activity tolerance and examination findings when determining the appropriate next step.
Imaging is not automatic after a pediatric accident. If imaging is being considered, the doctor evaluates whether it is clinically necessary and whether another medical setting or type of study would be more appropriate.
Family chiropractic beyond pregnancy and pediatrics
Many of our pediatric and pregnancy patients are part of families who already receive care here. Parents, grandparents, working adults and active teens may all have different reasons for visiting the office. The advantage of a family practice is continuity: the same clinic can provide general chiropractic care while also having the resources to evaluate accident injuries, provide massage therapy and progress patients through functional rehabilitation.
